Do you prefer reading or watching movies? Or does it depend on the book/movie? I know several books that the movies have been terrible and vice-versa.

Some ideas, in my opinion, just work better with movies. And others should just remain books. A few I think really compliment each other well, like say, The Hunger Games. I thought the movie was good at showing how the Capitol reacted to the games, while the book was focused mainly on the sheer horror of it all.

That makes sense, Antoinette. I put that I like both, because I try to read/watch both... Usually I read the book first. For The Hunger Games, I'm going to read it before I let myself see the movie. Which is hard! It's next on my list though, and I have the trilogy, so soon... (I'm reading To Kill a Mockingbird right now, and it's taking a while because it's SO GOOD that I want to savor it...haha.) I haven't seen Eragon yet either because I want to read the book...got halfway through it and forgot it at a friend's for about a year, lol. (But with that one I hear the book is better and maybe I *should* watch the movie first, so I won't be disappointed.......we'll see.)

I would definitely see the movie first. As it is horribly messed up. I mean, the movie almost couldn't even be considered the same plot as the book! As a movie, it was alright, but don't watch it right after immediately reading the book.

I prefer reading the book first, then going to see the movie. Just to see the difference.

I agree with you Lady Juliet I always read the books first before watching the movie. Take the Hunger Games for example, I haven't gotten the time to read it yet ( yes I will this summer, I know someone will comment on it ) I will only watch the movie after. I prefer the books which mainly is because I feel that some movies don't do the books any justice while they are on a hunt to get more people to watch it.

I'm bringing my nook to Hamamet, so you can read it then

I like both because I'm fairly good at separating the book and the movie. If the movie is a good movie, I can usually just appreciate that without comparing everything in it to the book and being disappointed because it isn't the same or even very much like the book at all. That said, it seems that most times, the changes are changes for the worst, haha. As to whether I would watch the movie first or read the book first...it really doesn't matter to me. Usually it turns out that I read the book first, though... *shrugs*

I should say... the Princess Diaries movie is MUCH better than the book. But that's an exception. Okay... Methinks I'll have to hunt down the Eragon movie then. And then restart reading it.

Yes, yes you do. I liked the Princess Diaries as a book on some aspects. Mia seemed much more...real because she would mess up her life over and over again.

I suppose that's true. I read the series tho, and they go downhill (morally), so that probably tainted my view of the first. And Mia was sort of whiny...

Though I do admire how different Meg Cabot's characters are, even if slightly. Yes, Mia is WAAAAAAYYY whiney. But she sounds like a normal teenager (believe me, I observe them. Like they were in a zoo. Fascinating.)

Yah... I'd definitely say her characters are realistic. Just not necessarily always likable. I wasn't a fan of the book version of Michael, either.
