So, I decided I needed a thread like this to let you know what's happening, and get input from all you lovely people on my upcoming books (and previous). First--I've officially decided to offer hardcover books, in addition to paperback and ebooks. These will be more expensive--probably around $25, but I'll offer them as cheaply as I'm able. This is just another option for y'all... I know some people prefer hardcover. Both Shrouded Jewels and Forgotten Memories should be available in this format on Amazon in early/mid July--or from me, if you want it/them signed. About Shrouded Jewels...I need a cover. I have a hint of an idea, but it's not terribly helpful to me at the moment. I'm open to ideas! I'm also wondering what your preferences are, as far as having people on the cover. With Forgotten Memories, you can clearly see Joe and Ella's faces. Is that a plus, or would you prefer the picture be silhouettes, or something similar, where it's not so obvious what the character looks like? To help with ideas... The story is a retelling of the Biblical tale of David and his first wife Mical. A major hurdle in their story is that Mical has difficulty trusting people, due to her past. Davey is kind to her, but he's frustrated by her stubborn cynicism. So, they don't get along...at all...for quite a while. Catherine--you've read some of it, so if you have anything to add that you think would help get ideas flowing, please do so. Thanks everyone!

To me "Shrouded Jewels" should have more silhouettes, hence the part of the title, "Shrouded", and maybe something like a big door to a vault with the shadow of someone in front of it?

I was thinking the same thing Catherine, but I wasn't sure how to word it.

Oooh...I like that. That also helps, because I don't think any of my friends look the way I imagine Mical and Davey. I was lucky with Forgotten Memories! I don't know if I could get access to a vault... but I do have some jewels I could put somewhere on the cover. I think we have a safe, too... a close-up of that could look vault-ish.

I agree with everyone else, given the "shrouded" part of the title. Can't wait to read it! How do you order autographed copies, BTW? Can you do that through amazon or only if it's through your website?

Thanks! I'm excited about it...this book has been close to my heart for about five years now. It started as a prompt in my writer's group... "write a 5 page short story based on a Bible story." There was no way I could stuff Mical and Davey's big personalities into five short pages! They were a natural choice for me, because I've always been fascinated by Mical, and the reasons behind her actions. I am moving a little away from the exact story, since it's in modern day some things naturally have to change...but if you look closely at it, the major elements should all be there. You can actually do that directly through me--either send me a PM or email with your address, who the book is for, and if you'd like a specific note along with the signature. I can accept payments via Paypal, or you can mail me a check. It should be cheaper for you that way. Otherwise I do have a seller's account on Amazon. Books bought directly from Amazon or CreateSpace don't touch my hands before they reach you, so I unfortunately can't sign those. I would, of course, sign any if you wanted to pay for shipping here and back.

Sounds great!! Thanks for the info! Do you know if your seller account on amazon qualifies for Super Saver Shipping? Oh, and of course I want a note to go along with the signature. Surprise me. Hehe. BTW, will the paperback verson of Shrouded Jewels be available before the hardcover or at the same time?

It doesn't, sorry. I wish I had that option! I can only give a flat rate on there. You betcha! The paperback version will be available before. I'll be doing the hardcover version on a different site, so I'm not going to worry about learning formatting for that until after I've completely finished and published Shrouded Jewels.

Oh, no worries! Hehe, sweet! Oh, nice! When should the paperback be coming out?

If all goes well, the beginning of July. I'll be ordering the proof copy on or before June 30th, and if there's nothing to change from that I'll make it public soon after it arrives. (First week of July, probably.)

Yeah, it'll be on my birthday list as well. Mine's the day after Catherine's!! I personally like people's faces on book covers. I find it helpful to have a mental picture of the character. I mean, I like making my own too, but sometimes it is nice.

Aw! That's awesome. Yah... I kinda like knowing what the Hunger Games characters look like as I'm reading. (Though I'm also curious if I would have imagined them differently without that...) Regardless which picture I go with for the cover (silhouette or a photo where you can see the faces), I'll put up a slideshow of the photoshoot on my site... so you'll get to see who my models are either way.
