"Um, sure. What am I supposed to do, exactly?"

Eli looked around. He was on the left side of the room. "I'll play, sure," he said. "Just give me a second." He hobbled over to the doors and pressed all the buttons, one by one. Nothing happened. "Sorry," he told Rosie, and took out a cell phone. After looking at it in disgust, he put it back in his satchel and took out a few sheets of thin paper and a pencil. He moved to the right side of the elevator and started penciling in words.

Rosie raised an eyebrow at him. "What are you doing?" Without giving him time to respond, she turned back to the girl. "I'll explain the rules when we know who's playing..but it's basically just a game of detection."

Eli looked up from his paper. "Writing. I'm sorry I can't play, but my editor hates me, and this has to be in by.." He checked his watch. "Five minutes ago."

"Why do you think he hates you?" Rosie asked, forgetting she had a group of pele waiting to be told the next step.

Eli sighed. "It's a she, and she practically told me yesterday. Which probably means I have no job today."

Rosie put a hand to her mouth. "I'm so sorry."

Eli attempted a smile. "Don't be. I hated it there anyway. All they were doing was giving me the stories nobody else wanted to cover. I mean, look at this one. It's a survey of how the average cat owner cooperates with their neighbourhood." He held out the piece of paper he was writing on to Rosie.

Rosie looked at it. "They're actually going to print that?" She scrunched her nose. "That's even worse than what they used to print in the Backus Blab!"

"Many thanks for your honest opinion from the author," Eli said wryly. "But I get what you mean; it's total garbage. And now, I guess, I don't have to do it anymore."

Rosie blushed. "I didn't mean the writing itself was bad-- I didn't read it, but I'm sure it's great-- I just meant...well....the idea....it's, kinda, dumb. But I'm sure you made it nice!"

Kateri glanced around and a single face stood out. The girl looked ready to pass out. Kateri walked over to her, "Hello, my name is Kateri. Are you okay?"

It was all too crazy. Julian moved to the other side of the elevator. There was no way he was going to play mafia. Suddenly he got dizzy. He was in a car, flying forward... he shook his head and tried to focus on someone in the elevator. He couldn't let it happen again.

"Why don't you try and relax, what kind of things do you do for fun?" Kateri said as she tried to think of ways to distract her
