"Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought." -Pope John Paul II “The riddles of God are more satisfying than the solutions of man.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “The world will never starve for want of wonders, but for want of wonder.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “There is the great lesson of 'Beauty and the Beast,' that a thing must be loved before it is lovable.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “There is at the back of every artist’s mind something like a pattern and a type of architecture. The original quality in any man of imagination is imagery. It is a thing like the landscape of his dreams; the sort of world he would like to make or in which he would like to wander, the strange flora and fauna, his own secret planet, the sort of thing he likes to think about. This general atmosphere, and pattern or a structure of growth, governs all his creations, however varied.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton “When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” ¯ G.K. Chesterton "God, in His infinite wisdom and love, created every person for His own glory. Everyone has a special song that only they can sing. When they are snuffed out before birth that song will never be sung and never be heard." - a friend of mine "But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. Because if a mother can kill her own child - what is left but for me to kill you and you to kill me - there is nothing between." -Mother Teresa "My grandmother used to say, 'You want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.' " -Jose (Bella) "Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again." — C.S. Lewis (The World's Last Night: And Other Essays)

"You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children." — Madeleine L'Engle
Will Turner: This is either madness... or brilliance. Jack Sparrow: It's remarkable how often those two traits coincide. -Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl Norrington: No additional shot nor powder, a compass that doesn't point north, [looks at Jack's sword] Norrington: And I half expected it to be made of wood. You are without doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of. Jack Sparrow: But you have heard of me. -Pirates of the Caribbean, The Curse of the Black Pearl Don Diego de la Vega: [referring to Murrieta's sword] Do you know how to use that thing? Alejandro Murrieta: Of course! The pointy end goes into the other man. Don Diego de la Vega: [sighs] This is going to take a lot of work. -The Mask of Zorro "When you explain poetry, it becomes banal. Better than any explanation is the experience of feelings that poetry can reveal to a nature open enough to understand it." -Pablo Neruda, Il Postino "I hate you! I love you! I'll never marry another man!" -Princess Aleta, as Valiant rides away (Prince Valiant) "Better'n kissing my dog!" ---Gus Pike, after stealing Felicity King's first kiss (Avonlea) "I am curious...what does 'groovy' mean?" -Tuvok, a Vulcan, to Tom Paris (in a time-traveling episode, Star Trek Voyager)

Courage is standing up when the whole world is sitting down.
When life punches you...you must hit back, even harder.
True courage is standing up for someone who can't stand up for themselves.

The best revenge is a vow to never be like the one who hurt you.

The best revenge is getting over it and moving on. Don't give someone the satisfaction of watching you suffer.
You were born original, don't die the photocopy.
We stopped checking for monsters under our bed because we've realized they were inside us.

Here are some more of my favorite quotes "Every person's life is a fairy tale written by God's fingers." ~ Hans Christian Anderson The ability to speak does not make you intelligent. "Well, yeah, you could. Yeah, you could do that, of course you could. But why? Look at these people: these human beings. Consider their potential. From the day they arrive on the planet, and blinking step into the sun. There is more to see than can ever be seen. More to do than - no, hold on... Sorry, that's the 'Lion King'. But the point still stands."~ Doctor Who "The Christmas Invasion" "You must ask God to give you power to fight against the sin of pride which is your greatest enemy - the root of all that is evil, and the failure of all that is good. For God resists the proud." ~ St. Vincent de Paul Never frown, because you never know when someone is falling in love with your smile.

O man, learn to dance, or else the angels in heaven will not know what to do with you. - St. Augustine
Some Doctor Who quotes, because the Doctor gives serious life lessons. *nods* So does Vincent Van Gogh.
Oh, you can do loads in twelve minutes. Suck a mint, buy a sledge, have a fast bath. - the Doctor
I wouldn't say that. The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant. - The Doctor
Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character. The black is, in fact deep blue. And over there: lighter blue and blowing through the blues and blackness the winds swirling through the air and then shining, burning, bursting through: the stars! And you see how they roar their light. Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes. - Van Gogh
“Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.” - Chesterton
“Poets do not go mad; but chess-players do. Mathematicians go mad, and cashiers; but creative artists very seldom. I am not, as will be seen, in any sense attacking logic: I only say that this danger does lie in logic, not in imagination.” - Chesterton
And finally, some Lemony Snicket; because I think he is the master of all things simile/metaphor/pessimistic humour. And he's hilarious.
“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.”
“If you are allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, particularly if the thing is cats.”
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice-cream sandwiches.”
“Stealing, of course, is a crime, and a very impolite thing to do. But like most impolite things, it is excusable under certain circumstances. Stealing is not excusable if, for instance, you are in a museum and you decide that a certain painting would look better in your house, and you simply grab the painting and take it there. But if you were very, very hungry, and you had no way of obtaining money, it would be excusable to grab the painting, take it to your house, and eat it.”
“Everyone should be able to do one card trick, tell two jokes, and recite three poems, in case they are ever trapped in an elevator.”

“If I am to answer the question, ‘How would Christ solve modern problems if He were on earth today’, I must answer it plainly; and for those of my faith there is only one answer. Christ is on earth today; alive on a thousand altars; and He does solve people’s problems exactly as He did when He was on earth in the more ordinary sense. That is, He solves the problems of the limited number of people who choose of their own free will to listen to Him.” – G.K. Chesterton
