So I'm finally reading The Son of Neptune! *Spoilers, though I think most of us have read it already* I got so excited when Nico came into the story! I really liked his character in the Percy Jackson series and wasn't expecting to see him again. Also, Percy is still awesome. He definitely seems a lot older than he was at the end of his series. Frank and Hazel - Hazel's pretty cool. I like her well enough and I think as I get further into the book, I'll probably like her more. And Frank's cool. I feel like I have to like him because...well...he's Canadian! How awesome is that?! Also...from now on, if anyone asks me how I slept I am going to reply with "I slept like a Medusa victim."

Haha! " I slept like a Medusa victim." I'm going to steal that. Nico's a cool character. Complex. Also, the cover art for that book? Stupendous. Absolutely stupendous.

Isn't it epic?! I was at work when I read that line and I laughed/had a stupid grin on my face for quite a while. He sure is. I wish Riordan would write a story about him. I'd definitely read it. I love the cover art. Definitely the best out of all his books so far. The cover art for The Mark of Athena is pretty cool as well. But Son of Neptune goes deeper than just the picture in the forefront. And so much of the whole design is important to the book. I haven't read Mark of Athena yet, but the cover doesn't seem to have much depth to it, if that makes sense.

I've read Mark of Athena, I liked it a lot. Percy and Annabeth are my favorite, Jason and Piper are...I'm sorry lame. And I don't like Frank very much either, I wish Hazel would date Leo. Leo is awesome.

hmmm...gonna have to disagree with you there. While I do think Leo is the most amazing character ever (after nico of course ) and I simply can't understand why none of the girl characters are interested in him, I Really don't want Frank to suffer because Hazel decides she doesn't love him anymore in favor of Leo. Frank is really sweet and fragile and I don't want to see him hurt. Plus him and Leo should be best bros.

Well even though I don't like Frank I don't want hom to be hurt. I'm just hoping he sacrifices himself.

Ah shh! No spoilers please! I think Frank is pretty awesome. I love him and Leo equally right now and like CM said, those two should TOTALLY be best bros. Could you imagine the broship they would have?!

I want to read the other HoO so bad but I kinda need to save my money for the summer And I'm super busy reading books for school such as... Jane Eyre (have to reread it for some notes and classes and stuff) To Kill a Mockingbird The Yearling The Narrative Life of Fredrick Douglas (I think that's how the title goes...) I had an option between The Tale of Two Cities and The Yearling and I went with the latter since I've read the kids version of the first and it kind of scared me...so I'm going with the second which has animals in it. I'm finally done with Romeo and Juliet!!! HURRA!!! Glad that's over with. And I'm dying to read The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale but none of the bookstores I have visited have it in stock...so I may have to order it online. Oh and Rick Riordan is pretty cruel leaving us in such suspense all the time and killing everyone off. I die inside after every book I've read from him. I need a break from dying.

Anyone know some good "summery" books? I am really interested with the Kingdom Keeper series and might want to read them but I thought I might ask someone who might have read it if they're worth it...

I read the first two in that series! I really enjoyed the first one when I was 12, but I went back and reread it last year when I read the second one and was not terribly impressed. So many problems... the villains tried too hard to be scary, and their personalities didn't match up with what we've seen in Disney movies at ALL. Just in general, not enough Disney goodness (come on, they're in Disney World after everyone leaves!), and even for a children's fantasy novel, the plot was so far-fetched and I couldn't immerse myself in the world. And worst of all, the characters had a flat, empty feeling, like they weren't real people. I didn't give two hoots about any of them. There was a lot of missed potential there, actually. Flashbacks could have been used very interestingly and effectively. It felt like the book just kind of started in the middle, sacrificing characters I could possibly care about for this wacko story. Also, I can't STAND it when books use the internet (email, chatrooms, social networking, video games) for major plot developments. It is rarely ever done well and it's usually forced and silly. These were just my opinions after reading it as a critical 19-year-old. I am VERY hard to please when it comes to young adult fiction. Other people probably really enjoy it as a fun story that takes a place that everyone is more or less familiar with and sort of turns it on its head. That being said, some of my favorite summer books: I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall The Ordinary Princess by M.M. Kaye Airborn by Kenneth Oppel A Room With A View by E.M. Forster Into the Wild by Sarah Beth Durst Enchanted Forest Chronicles series by Patricia C. Wrede the Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace
